The 40th class reunion planning got of slowly. Members of the committee consisted of Betsey Hughes Gunderson, Laine Matsuo Skiendiel, Sherlin Lee Kowal and Darryll Wong. They planned two events to coincide with the Maryknoll Alumni celebrations.

The first event was again hosted by Sherlin at her beautiful Manoa home. People gathered around her dinning room table and it was like old times again. It was nice to see Carlyn Nunes Shriver as this was her first reunion since graduation. Her comment was why did I wait so long to come to one and Im not going to miss any more of these. Also for the first time was Tom Leineweber who although didnt graduate with us, felt so much a part of us. Although the group was small, 16, it afforded us more time to talk with people we hadnt seen for quite awhile. Besides Carlyn from LA, Jo Tom flew in from Colorado, and Sheila Nakanishi from San Diego. Others there were Neal Eshima, Noraine Sue Ichikawa, Danny Tom, Mike Leach, Steve Sui, Mike Dang, Wayson Lee and Stella Wong. Also members of the committee Betsey, Laine, Darryll and of course our hostess Sherlin.

The following night we all gathered for the Maryknoll Alumni Dinner at the Prince Hotel. This annual event honors all graduating classes with special attention to the five and ten years groups. As it was our 40th, we had prime seating and two tables of our classmates. Joining us at the dinner was Elaine Peterson, Pam Yoon, Fran Ho Bellnger, and Ronald Pang. Our own classmate Stella Wong was honored by receiving the Alumni Achievement Award. She was the only recipient this year.

The highlight of the evening was at the end when our class let the dancing with the class of 58. It was like we never left Roger Hall and those dances. Our older bodies did show that we couldnt dance the night away. We ended much earlier then we ever did in high school.

That night an impromptu picnic was planned at Elaines Makaha Beach house for Monday. This time we were joined by Alberta Prestige Carpus and Cathy Hee Daenz. Danny also brought his baby, Richard and wife Mam. We all had a great time enjoying the ocean, sun, and turtles that lay on the beach.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and there was talk of inviting more people. We heard from people who did not graduate with us, but would like to attend anything we plan. People who went to Maryknoll Grade School were mentioned and people who attended high school with us but went else where.

So, stay tuned for the next event, our 60th birthday celebration. Want to join the committee to help plan? Special thanks to Wayson who as always was our photographer along with others who helped contribute to the photos of the reunion. We look forward to seeing all of you at our next event.
