45th Class Reunion 2013

Can it really be that 45 years have flown by and we are retired or getting close to it?  Just take a look at the pictures and you can see that we have aged gracefully and time has been good to us.

Our 45th reunion started in Vegas and then moved to Honolulu.

Las Vegas Gathering Las Vegas Photos

On July 13, 2013 we embarked on an adventure to Las Vegas to celebrate our 45th class reunion.  It was a non-stop laughfest from beginning to end... Unfortunately, since it was Las Vegas, we can only share so much.  So here's what we can say... Joining us from the mainland were Sheila Nakanishi and husband Paul (fastest traveling couple ever), Jeff Strauser and wife Sandy, and Pamela Yoon. Traveling over the Pacific were Betsey Hughes Gunderson, Debbie Ng Puchert, Noraine Sue Ichikawa and husband Wayne, Elaine Peterson,  Jerome Tanaka and wife Stef, Carol Kwak Wong and Derrick Wong.  On the first morning, the Perry and Price Show was graced by our presence... until... we were asked to sing our Alma Mater.  We all stood up and began to sing the first two lines. Our singing abilities must have diminished from our glory days of winning Battle of the Choirs as Price tells us that we pray better than we sing... hmmmm... guess that's a good thing.

Our next adventure was Electronic Bingo at Palace Station Casino... truly wonderful and mindless activitiy for us senior citizens.  Jerome and Noraine were the lucky ones here (it was all luck... their mindlessness played no part in their winnings).

On to the next event... Bowling...  here we were able to witness the slowest traveling bowling ball ever ... thrown by Debbie ... as pins fell in slow motion as well ... Quite remarkable!!!...and our bowling champ Jeff concocted a new bowling stance for Betsey that actually worked!  Yay Bets!

It took one hour to bowl just one game due to multiple merry- go- round group hugs  by the gals.... afterall, non-gutter balls was a time to celebrate...by Executive Order, Jerome put a stop to that declaring only One-Hop Group hugs allowed.  We then proceeded to squeeze two games  into the last hour....Debbie's balls were no help...but Sandy Strauser decided to speed things up…no more gutter balls but TWO STRIKES in a row!!!!  At our Bowling Awards Banquet we awarded prizes for excellence and non-excellence alike. Jeff, Paul and Derrick were standouts with Jeff being top winner... Elaine, Debbie, Carol and Betsey must have fallen into the non-excellence category as they were awarded prizes for Best cheerleader, Best Hairdo, Best form, Best beer drinker... huh?... (and not necessarily in that order)  We played our now infamous Whose Body game by borrowing Pam's head.  Thank you soooo much Pam!!!   Stef and Sandy were awarded the best Supporting Spouses Awards ... Thank you Stef and Sandy… we truly appreciate you!!!

And our most exciting night in the casino came at the Crap Table.  All we can say is that it was exciting, it was LOUD, and all of us that were at the table had a very good night at the “office”!

We did manage to squeeze in two shows... Jersey Boys and Human Nature that brought back many memories as did the entire reunion which was filled with lots of reminiscing and loads and loads of laughter!!!

We all truly had a wonderful time celebrating our 45th reunion as we enjoyed sharing old and new stories and more laughter as if time had never passed... we all had a great time!... and we look forward to doing it again!

Honolulu Alumni Gathering Honolulu Photos

The evening at the new Maryknoll Community Center started off with a tour of the high school facilities by Betsey.  There have been so many changes there.  Roger Hall no longer has a stage and has been converted into a gathering place for the students.  It seems all assemblies are now held at the new community center and there was no need for Roger Hall’s configuration anymore.

So as we walked through the area, still under construction, we reminisced about the Aloha Week pageants, Christmas song fests, and all the dances we had in that hall.  We also toured the rest of the campus and noticed that the students now have a much improved science lab and other facilities such as air conditioning along the freeway side of the school.

As we returned to the Alumni Lounge in the new Community Hall, we went in to the new NBA standard gym where Stella was allowed to shoot a basket.  Yes, it took several attempts to make a basket, however, it’s been at least 45 years since the last attempt.

After dinner we played "Whose Body?".  This was also played in Vegas with those who were there.  When the answers were revealed, everyone couldn’t stop laughing.  There was even someone who did not recognize his own excellent tennis form.  Yes, you had to be there to enjoy all the different memory games we played.

No one really wanted to leave, but the building had a curfew of 10:00p.m.  So we cleaned up and headed home looking forward to the next night’s dinner at the Sheraton Hotel.

The Alumni Dinner at the Sheraton Waikiki brought together more classmates who had not attended other events.  There was a member from the first graduating class of 1938, classes celebrating their 60th reunion, 50th reunion and of course our class.  We also honored Darryll and Derrick for the Alumni Achievement Award, along with Yvonne Usita Morris.  This award is presented to alumni who give of their time, talent and treasure back to the school and community.

The night ended with dancing to the songs of the 60 & 70’s by the group "A Touch of Gold".  It was amazing that our classmates still had the moves on the dance floor.  Everyone got up and danced the last song “Celebrate Good Times”.

2018 Reunion
Which brings us to our final point.  Please make sure you join us in 2018 to "Celebrate Good Times" and our 50th class reunion.  Put it on your calendars now!

See you all in 2018 if not before.  There’s talk about a gathering to celebrate turning 65 gathering….. Stay tuned!!
